Chevrolet Corvette 1962

1962 Corvette

With even greater power and also looks cleaner, Corvette ranks as perhaps the most desirable Corvette between 1957 and 1963. The base price of the car broke the $ 4000 barrier for the first time, to $ 4038. A heater was finally made standard for 1962, more than deny the increase in prices compared to the previous model, but it could be eliminated if you wish, which was designed for purposes of travel.

The most obvious was the deletion chrome bodyside outline around the caves, which also shed their triple chrome accent lance in favour of more conservative applique ribbed aluminum, which were finished in the black for subtlety. Omitting the bays' optional two-tone treatment only reinforced this aspect more cohesive. Other elements were equally fine. The previous grid mesh silver and its accompanying cuttings were now finished in black, as was the background of the trunklid medallion. Banda close whitewalls that were in vogue years and looked great on the Corvette. The only place where any form of decoration was added was the rocker panels, which were recently adorned with ribbed anodized aluminum-Greek.

Under the bonnet, the engine 283 has been bored out and to bring its cylinder dimensions 4.00 x 3.25 inches and moving up to 327 cid. The small-block V-8 will continue in this way, as the Corvette main muscle through 1965. It was muscle. The basic 327 pumped out 250 hp and in good shape could create an explosive 360 hp. The deepest breath-327 block prompted a small but important change in Rochester-injection system of fuel, and heavy-duty bearings largest ports, and a longer duration camshaft were fitted to all but the base engine from 250 hp. The solid-Duntov cam lift was specified for now the most powerful of the three carbureted engines, now up to 340 hp (as well as continuing in the top fuelie). Both these races close 11.25:1 compression 10.5:1 respect for the basic and step-up from 300 hp engines. The last two were perhaps the best choices for all-around use, which offers more than enough power more simplicity and ease of maintenance of hydraulic and a single four-barrel carburetor tappets.

To this end, the annoying twin four-barrel carbs were now completely gone, replaced by large, single four Carters barrel. Power peak in the top two versions came screaming 6000 rpm - pretty high for a pushrod power - while the 250 - and 300-hp versions ran out of steam at 4400 rpm and 5000, respectively. The last two engines were available only with Powerglide optional, which was treated to a weight-saving aluminum case like that given four-speed manual the previous year.

The extra power and torque of the largest 327 V-8 translated into really fierce and 0-60 mph acceleration quarter miles: The routine four-speed/fuelie hit the quarter mile mark in 15 seconds or less at a speed of 100 mph or more evidence in the magazine. And with the appropriate options, the Corvette has yet to win a production class runner. Also in 1962, The Sports Car Club of America's A-sample was Production Dr. Dick Thompson. The Corvette has been a serious competitor, even with only minor changes. Don Yenko, for example, took the SCCA's B-Production title that season.

Corvette, 1962 marked the end of an era for the America sports car, with the first completely new model in its history now a simple model years away. Still, the 1962 has been a model of transition and which introduced the venerable 327 V-8, which should be carried over to the new design. While the car harkened back to its roots as a 1953-1962 was faster, better managed, looked handsomer, and was most civilized of any previous Corvette, but retained much of the charm of the original concept roadster. Sales on the year jumped nearly 40 percent to 14531 units, and the Corvette was firmly in the black with regard to the bottom line GM was concerned.

It was not rest on our laurels, o. The first completely redesigned model and its history would soon come to be realized, as the epitome of plastic body Chevy sports car, and the designations "Corvette" and "Stingray" was to become synonymous.
