Chevolet Corvette 1956

1956 Corvette

The 1956 Corvette was not only fresh, but look for a big improvement over the first generation in almost every aspect. While the changes were more evolutionary that revolutionary, all of the old version were removed items lower and higher are now more stressed. At $ 3120, the price had jumped by a nominal amount - about $ 200 - over the previous year (V-8 equipped) model.

A clear "face" was seen as the most attractive of the first-generation design, and the next generation of visage looked even more attractive. Wire screens had become the "eyes" appear veiled in 1953-55 models - inappropriate, it was thought, for a "man's" car - so the headlights were discovered and made their breaks.

Complementing this was a larger version of the Corvette emblem round of the nose, with the racy crossed reason for the flags that survives to this day. The original front grille, which formed the "mouth" and its magnificent chrome "teeth", were unchanged from the 1955 model.

Rear-end style revisions to 1956 were equally tasteful executed. El'53-'55 's finny defenses and jet-pod taillamps were cut up artificiality French contoured curves to match curvature back cover, and new taillights were neatly "frenched" above a vertical bumperette each fender. The trunklid "shadow box" and ruled out the plate was moved below the trunk opening, which is flanked by horizontal bumperettes with little inboard bullets. The result was a soft, gently curved tail, with the defenses Protuberans only slightly.

The bodyside "bays" because it is going to call, gave the 1956 Corvette real style unique personality. It also helped to correct the slab-sided look that has led some to mock the first generation of design as a plastic tub. " Even with the coves of the Straits schemes chromium - one of the few last-minute changes made to trim the prototype production - the sidewalls are clean and attractive.

Or Incidentally, the car is now largely devoid of stylistic tricks, but spent two obvious: vent imitations scoops top defenses near the front of the windshield (originally designed to be functional - for ventilation cowl - but cost considerations rendered them merely decorative) can be substituted-false-knockoff centres wheel (wheel of the car is covered entirely new and more ornate than before). Those wheels covers, however, remains standard issue until 1963, and since then have become some of the best-known wheel covers in the history of the automobile.

What's more, the 1956 Corvette are not only better than its predecessor, but it worked better, too, and was an all-around more "livable" car. The fussy side curtains are gone forever, replaced by the good cheer of the glass door. Even the power window lifts were available at extra cost. The addition of outside handles ended the hassle of having to arrive at the cabin to open a door.

The Corvette convertible upper level fits tighter and now offered in beige and white, in addition to the question of black cloth; design wise it is more integrated and rounded at the rear echo the stern quarter of design. A power-operated top is offered for the first time as an option to $ 170.60, although it was technically only semiautomatic - had to be unlatched and partially collapsed manually times before pressing the button. Capping the new design is a rigid removable taken directly from the production-based prototype seen at the 1954 show Motorama. The rigid an extra cost of $ 215.20, even though they may be exchanged by the hood for free. The new factory hard, obviously, it bends, and with its rear window, which provides much better vision on the shoulder of the hood.

With the exception of new waffle-1955, keeping the "twin cowl" dashboard with its uncomfortable about everything width instrument spread. A new spring spoke steering wheel is added, and the heater was changed from the recirculation of age to a new type of "fresh air" after the first production version of 145 cars were built. The posts remained separate, flat-bottomed buckets matters to be in name only. The passenger seat could be adjusted forwards and backwards, for the first time, and seat belts were newly available as a dealer-installed accessory kit. Then-vanguard of the search transistorized radio signal is another new option is available for $ 198.90.
